Since the beginning of December, an essential stage in the project has been completed: work to restore the railway infrastructure has begun and is being carried out at night. From the beginning of next year, repair work will begin on the tunnel head, followed by restoration work on the catenary, detector nets and railway signalling cables.
At the end of these various phases, after the checks required to reopen the line in complete safety, the usual link between France and Italy should be able to resume during the month of March 2025. A reopening date will be announced shortly, SNCF Reseau informs.
So 2025 will be the year when the long-awaited resumption of traffic will take place for all the institutional players, the valley’s residents and shopkeepers, the rail and freight companies, the tourist clientele and, of course, SNCF Réseau!
